Students Hike Historic Trail, Honor Heroes
Students from the AMS Hiking Club completed an educational spring expedition along the Bronx River Trailway last week, combining outdoor recreation with historical education and remembrance. The group navigated the trail from North White Plains to Kensico Dam in Valhalla despite cool early spring temperatures.
During their journey, students observed the historic Valhalla Bridge on the parkway, which reached its centennial milestone this year. The bridge, constructed in 1925, provided students with a practical opportunity to apply their knowledge of Roman numerals in a real-world context.
The excursion concluded at the Westchester 9/11 Memorial, where students paid respects to county residents who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks, as well as First Responders who suffered illnesses related to recovery efforts in the years following.
