AMS History Club Explores Ferncliff Cemetery

The AMS History Club visited Ferncliff Cemetery to recognize the achievements of several notable and celebrity figures who are buried or interred there. Ahead of the trip, club members researched each individual to learn about their life and historical impact.

During the visit, students located each gravesite and shared brief presentations about the person’s

contributions and why they are remembered today. It was an engaging, hands-on experience that brought local history to life.

Among the resting places visited were: James Baldwin, Theolonius Monk, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, Paul Robeson, Moms Mabley, Whitney Young, Toots Schor, Juan Metzger, Elsa Maxwell, Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell, Heavy D and Aaliyah.
