AMS Hiking Club Explores Historic Tarrytown Lakes Trail

AMS Hiking Club Explores Historic Tarrytown Lakes Trail

The AMS Hiking Club recently ventured out to explore the scenic Tarrytown Lakes trail, a former rail line that once served as a spur to the New York Putnam Railroad—known locally as the Old Put.

The group began their journey on the South County Trailway, where they spotted sections of the exposed rail line near the Eastview park-and-ride. Their route took them along the eastern reservoir and on to the smaller western reservoir, nestled at the base of the old Marymount campus.

On the return trek, hikers discovered century-old telegraph poles, remnants of Westchester’s historic rail system, still standing tall. The adventure ended with a spectacular sunset over vibrant fall foliage, making it a truly memorable and picture-perfect outing for the club.
