A Full Week of Wellness Activities and Learning
Ardsley Middle School students participated in a Wellness Week filled with opportunities for physical, mental, and emotional growth. The week created memorable learning experiences that reinforced the school's commitment to nurturing the whole child.
The weeklong celebration kicked off with students arriving in cozy pajamas, setting a relaxed tone for the days ahead. A highlight of the morning included the police dog demonstration and crafting personalized sleep masks. Staff members began their week with a special treat, as a coffee truck provided refreshments, boosting their spirits and energy for the wellness activities ahead.
Day two focused on nutrition and cognitive engagement, with the school café offering a variety of healthy snacks. Students participated in jigsaw puzzle sessions, exercising problem-solving skills while practicing mindfulness through focused attention.
The middle of the week brought connection and nature to the forefront as students crafted colorful friendship bracelets and received wildflower seeds to plant. Teachers and staff enjoyed rejuvenating massage sessions, followed by a special lunch and yoga practice, modeling self-care practices for their students.
Mental health awareness was the focus on Thursday as students applied temporary tattoos with positive messages. Professional yoga instructors guided classes through age-appropriate techniques to manage stress and build focus. A petting zoo featuring Tilly the kangaroo created moments of joy that students continued to discuss throughout the rest of the week.
The week concluded with physical activities, including an inflatable obstacle course that tested students' strength and coordination. A spirited Color Wars rematch brought the community together in friendly competition, with the 5th-grade team earning an extra recess for their enthusiastic participation. Additionally, guest speaker Tom Rich delivered powerful messages about digital wellness.
Wellness Week organizer and Assistant Principal Jennifer Goldenberg reflected on the week's impact: "Wellness Week provided our students with opportunities to develop healthy habits that extend far beyond the classroom. The skills they practiced last week will serve them throughout their lives.
Thank you to the staff and faculty who volunteered their time and energy, to the PTSA for funding the animals, coffee truck and inflatables and Two by Two Animal Haven, Cafe Bonne Coffee Trucks, Wellness and Pain, Whitson's Food Service, Rockland Therapy Dogs, Fiesta Bounce, Samantha Podob nutritionist, Stephany Olivieri (provided yoga classes and more), NYS Trooper K9 unit and Tom Rich for adding enriching experiences for AMS students.
